Updated 26 October 2026. Micron (NASDAQ: MU) goes into Monday’s session at $877.55, Friday’s close, up 2.46 percent after Thursday’s 6.3 percent drop, with $879.90 quoted after hours (StockAnalysis). On Tuesday 27 October Micron and its Taoyuan union meet at Taoyuan City Government, after nearly 70 percent of members voted down the company’s latest offer, and on Tuesday evening New York time SK hynix reports its third quarter (CNA, SK hynix). Verdict: Monday’s Asian session leaned positive for DRAM: SK hynix rose as much as 2.6 percent in Seoul after shelving the Solidigm IPO, even as foreigners sold Korean stocks and Elon Musk warned that lenders have shut AI-only data-centre operators out of the debt market. We found no report of a new Micron offer or a strike date over the weekend. Reference levels: $800 below, $950 above.
Key facts
- Price: MU $877.55 at Friday 23 October’s close, up $21.06, and $879.90 after hours at 7:59 pm ET (StockAnalysis). Volume was 21.5 million shares. Market value about $993 billion; 52-week range $192.59-$1,255.00. Wednesday’s close, before the selloff, was $913.67.
- Tuesday’s talks: the session at Taoyuan City Government was moved from Friday to 27 October after Typhoon Champi closed offices in Taoyuan (CNA). The union says 1,633 members, close to 70 percent of the membership, rejected Micron’s plan and that it will keep pressing for a fixed profit-sharing mechanism (CNA, Liberty Times).
- The dispute: the union wants 15 percent of global operating profit paid out as quarterly bonuses and a one-time bonus of 83 months’ salary; Micron’s earlier offer was up to 68 months, and it has proposed a new quarterly bonus programme from the first quarter of fiscal 2027 (Taiwan News, Reuters). Eleven union officials staged a 24-hour warning strike from 22 October; it was limited to those officials, not a full walkout (Focus Taiwan). The Taichung union signed its own agreement on 21 October.
- Company line: Micron says it “remains eager to maintain continuous communication and dialogue with the Taoyuan Union” (Focus Taiwan).
- Seoul on Monday: SK hynix opened 2.58 percent higher at 1,310,000 won and was up 1.02 percent at 1.29 million won by 1:20 pm; Samsung Electronics was down 0.35 percent; foreigners net sold 575.7 billion won of Kospi stocks (EDAILY, TradingKey). EDAILY tied SK hynix’s strength to Solidigm’s discontinued US IPO review, announced on 23 October, and to expectations of larger shareholder returns.
- SK hynix results: before 9 am on Wednesday 28 October Seoul time, 8 pm Tuesday in New York (SK hynix Newsroom). FnGuide consensus is operating profit of 76.96 trillion won, which Bernstein notes is 5.6 percent below the consensus of three months ago (MoneyToday, BigGo Finance).
- Musk’s warning: Elon Musk said on Sunday that SpaceX had closed $40 billion of debt for GPU purchases and that debt markets “have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company” without substantial revenue outside AI data centres, predicting failures among neoclouds (Reuters, via Investing.com). EDAILY cited the remark as a weight on chip sentiment in Seoul.
- Analysts: StockAnalysis shows a Strong Buy consensus from 49 analysts with an average target of $1,561.91, about 78 percent above Friday’s close. Wedbush kept a Buy and $1,400 on 23 October; Rosenblatt kept $1,900 and Needham $1,650 on 22 October; D.A. Davidson’s $3,000 is the Street high.
Two events before Micron’s own number
Micron does not report this week; the two events that move it both happen on Tuesday. The first is in Taoyuan. A deal would remove the tail risk of the first full strike in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry at a plant that makes a large share of Micron’s DRAM; a breakdown with a strike date would put that risk on the tape just as the memory market is debating whether pricing has peaked. The gap between the sides is wide, 83 months against 68 and a fixed 15 percent profit pool against a discretionary programme, and the union’s members have already rejected one offer. Our report on the rejected offer covers how the stock reacted last time.
The second is SK hynix, a few hours later. Its quarter is the first hard DRAM number of the season, and its tone on 2027 contract pricing and HBM share sets Micron’s Wednesday opening. Monday’s move in Seoul suggests investors are prepared to give SK hynix the benefit of the doubt now that the Solidigm overhang has gone. The Sunday page lays out the consensus numbers; the Sandisk page covers the NAND side of the same week.
The funding question
Musk’s remark is a reminder of what the memory rally rests on. Micron’s pricing power comes from AI data-centre demand, and a large part of the newest demand comes from operators that borrow to build. If lenders are pulling back from them, as Musk says, the hyperscalers’ own budgets matter more than ever, and those land this week: Microsoft and Alphabet on Wednesday, Amazon on Thursday (Yardeni Research). The Fed decides on Wednesday afternoon, with December hike odds near 75 percent (Reuters).
Micron this week: bull, base and bear
| Scenario | MU | What has to happen | Anchor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | $800 | Taoyuan talks end with a strike date, SK hynix misses consensus or softens its pricing outlook, and the Fed signals December. | About 8.8 percent below Friday’s $877.55 and under Thursday’s $856.49 close. |
| Base | $840-$920 | Talks continue without a deal or a date, SK hynix lands near consensus, and the stock trades the sector tape into Samsung on Thursday. | Thursday’s low to Friday’s high, extended to Wednesday’s $913.67 close. |
| Bull | $950 | A Taoyuan agreement on Tuesday, SK hynix beats and talks up 2027 contract pricing, and hyperscaler capex guidance holds up. | About 8.3 percent above Friday’s close and through the $913.67 level the selloff started from; below Wedbush’s $1,400, the lowest recent bank target. |
The bear case sits below Friday’s close. These are reference levels measured from the verified quotes, not forecasts.
What to watch this week
- Tuesday 27 October, Taoyuan: the outcome of the talks at Taoyuan City Government, a deal, another round or a strike date.
- Tuesday 8 pm ET: SK hynix’s third quarter and its DRAM and HBM pricing commentary.
- Wednesday 28 October: the Fed at 2 pm EDT; Microsoft and Alphabet after the close.
- Thursday 29 October: Samsung’s full results, Sandisk and Amazon after the US close.
Quick take: Micron goes into Monday at $877.55 with a mildly positive lead from SK hynix in Seoul and no reported change in the Taoyuan dispute before Tuesday’s talks. Musk’s warning on AI-operator funding is the new risk. A Taoyuan deal and a strong SK hynix quarter open $950; a strike date and a soft pricing outlook open $800.
