Updated 11 October 2026, 06:45 UTC. Bitcoin (BTC) trades at $83,040, up about 0.4 percent over 24 hours on a quiet Sunday (CoinGecko $83,022; Coinbase $83,044; Kraken $83,049). It enters a week with two scheduled shocks: US September CPI on Wednesday 14 October at 8:30 a.m. ET (Bureau of Labor Statistics) and the start of bank earnings on 13-14 October, including BlackRock, the issuer of the largest spot Bitcoin ETF. Verdict: the market is pricing a range, not a breakout. The bear case for the week is $80,000, a break of the 8 October low; the base case is a $82,000-$86,000 range around $84,000; the bull case is $87,500, a retest of the early-October high.
Key facts
- Price: $83,040 at 06:45 UTC on 11 October, with three venues within $30 of each other (CoinGecko, Coinbase, Kraken). Over the past week Bitcoin traded between an intraday low of $80,329 on 8 October and a high of $86,974 on 5 October; the 2 October high was $87,229 (Kraken daily candles, UTC). Bitcoin is about 34 percent below its all-time high of $126,080, set on 6 October 2025.
- ETF flows: US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $681.1 million in the week to 9 October, ending three straight weeks of inflows and marking their worst week since the week ending 26 June (SoSoValue data, reported by The Block on 10 October). The daily path was -$89.9 million, +$118.9 million, -$487.1 million, -$244.1 million and +$21.1 million. Farside Investors’ figures differ slightly (for example -$484.9 million on 7 October).
- Year-to-date: 2026 net inflows into the funds fell to $494.1 million from $1.18 billion a week earlier; the funds hold $105.84 billion in net assets (SoSoValue, via The Block).
- Inflation: August CPI, released 11 September, showed headline inflation at 3.4 percent a year and core at 2.4 percent, with core up 0.3 percent on the month (BLS). The September report is due on 14 October.
- Rates: the Federal Reserve raised its target range to 3.75-4.00 percent in September, and minutes released on 7 October showed most officials judged another increase “likely” appropriate by year-end. Polymarket prices no change at the 28 October meeting at 83.5 percent and a 25 basis-point hike at 15.5 percent (06:45 UTC, 11 October).
- Bank earnings: JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Citigroup report before the open on Tuesday 13 October; Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and BlackRock follow on Wednesday 14 October, the same morning as CPI (24/7 Wall St earnings calendar, 9 October; BlackRock investor relations).
- Prediction markets: Polymarket gives Bitcoin a 66.5 percent chance of trading above $82,000 on Friday 16 October and 38 percent above $84,000. For the whole of October it prices a 62.5 percent chance of a dip to $80,000 and a 48.5 percent chance of a move to $87,500 (Polymarket gamma API, 06:45 UTC, 11 October).
Why Wednesday is the pivot
For the first time in three years, the debate at the Fed is about whether to raise rates again, not when to cut. That changes how a CPI print hits Bitcoin. A month ago the August figure showed core prices up 0.3 percent on the month, and FinanceFeeds tracked how Bitcoin fell to about $77,400 after that print as hike odds jumped. The Fed then delivered the increase on 16 September, an outcome FinanceFeeds had described as largely priced in beforehand.
This time the starting point is different. Market-implied odds of another quarter-point hike, which briefly reached about 70 percent after the September meeting, had fallen to roughly 20 percent by 8 October, according to a report by Asia Economy citing futures pricing, and Polymarket now sits at 15.5 percent. The two-year Treasury yield fell more than 10 basis points in the week to 8 October, to around 4.7 percent, after the 3 October jobs report showed average hourly earnings up 3.0 percent a year, the slowest pace in more than five years (same report).
That leaves the September CPI as the data point most able to move those odds before 28 October. A core reading that repeats or exceeds August’s 0.3 percent would revive the hike case and, on the evidence of September, weigh on Bitcoin. A softer core figure would support the hold scenario that markets already favour and remove one reason for the ETF selling to continue.
The ETF picture: one bad week, not a trend yet
The $681.1 million weekly outflow was concentrated in two sessions. Wednesday 7 October accounted for $487.1 million on its own, and 8 October added $244.1 million, before flows turned positive again on Friday with $21.1 million (SoSoValue via TFTC). FinanceFeeds broke down where those outflows came from and what they meant for the price on 9 October.
The fund-level detail matters for Wednesday’s BlackRock results. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) was roughly flat across the week: it took in $69.9 million and $122.0 million on 5 and 6 October, lost $207.7 million on 7 October and $5.5 million on 8 October, and added $22.4 million on 9 October (SoSoValue daily data via TFTC). Most of the week’s selling came from other issuers. BlackRock’s quarterly results and its 7:30 a.m. ET call are one of the few institutional read-throughs on digital-asset demand the market gets each quarter.
The broader context is that the week ended a three-week inflow run that had taken 2026 net inflows into positive territory. FinanceFeeds reported at the time that Citi lifted its 12-month Bitcoin target to $113,000 on the strength of returning ETF demand. One week of outflows does not undo that case, but a second week would.
The rest of the October calendar
- 14 October: September CPI (8:30 a.m. ET), Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and BlackRock results.
- 28 October: Federal Reserve rate decision.
- 31 October: the deadline for Mt. Gox creditor repayments, which the court-appointed trustee extended by a year in October 2025 with Tokyo court approval (Decrypt). Any large wallet movements from trustee addresses ahead of the deadline tend to be read as potential supply.
Bitcoin price week ahead: bull, base and bear case
| Scenario | Level by 16 October | What gets it there | Market-implied odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | $80,000 | Core CPI at or above 0.3 percent revives October hike pricing; ETF outflows extend into a second week; the 8 October low of $80,329 breaks. | 15.5 percent that BTC is below $80,000 on 16 October; 62.5 percent that it touches $80,000 at some point in October (Polymarket). |
| Base | $82,000-$86,000 (mid $84,000) | CPI close to expectations; bank results pass without a shift in rate pricing; flows mixed. Bitcoin stays in the range it has held since 7 October. | 66.5 percent above $82,000 and 38 percent above $84,000 on 16 October (Polymarket). |
| Bull | $87,500 | A soft core reading pushes hike odds lower; ETF inflows resume; price retests the $87,229 high of 2 October. | 48.5 percent that BTC reaches $87,500 in October; 5.5 percent that it is above $88,000 on 16 October (Polymarket). |
All three levels are measured from the verified spot of $83,040. The bear case sits about 3.7 percent below spot and the bull case about 5.4 percent above, a range that reflects how narrowly Bitcoin has traded over the weekend: Kraken’s 10 October candle spanned only $82,475 to $83,090.
Quick take: Bitcoin goes into the week at $83,040 after its worst ETF week since June, but the selling faded by Friday and BlackRock’s own fund was roughly flat. Wednesday is the day to watch: CPI at 8:30 a.m. ET and BlackRock’s results before the open. A hot core print points to a test of $80,000; a soft one opens a run at $87,500. Prediction markets lean towards the range holding.
FAQ
