Popular travel app enters involuntary bankruptcy, to liquidate

Success in the travel industry depends on many factors that are often outside the entrepreneur’s control.

With advances in technology revolutionizing the ease with which travelers can book flights and hotels on their own without an agent, travel agencies and booking platforms in particular have struggled to stay afloat amid rising operating costs and dropping customer numbers.

Some agencies and travel companies that either ended up in insolvency proceedings or ceased operations entirely in 2026 include Lastminute.com, TripCase, Trav Expert, Sunshine Tours, Groupia, Salamander Voyages and Travel Bespoke.

Weyeboo Business Travel app enters insolvency proceedings four years after launch

In Spain, a commercial court in Girona has now also placed local startup Weyeboo Business Travel into involuntary bankruptcy proceedings after an investigation found that it had no remaining funds to stay in business.

The company was established in 2022 by Jaume Paretas Sacot in the historic medieval city in the autonomous Catalonia region of Spain approximately 60 miles northeast of Barcelona.

The app promised to connect travelers with local residents in various European cities for “authentic experiences” and book various tours and other activities in the region.

Commercial Court Number Two of Girona listened to arguments that, four years after launch, the app has brought in no revenue. An insolvency administrator has been assigned by the court and the process is now in a 15-day period during which both sides study the case.

What else is known about the Weyeboo Business Travel app

Weyeboo Business Travel could not be immediately reached for comment on its situation. It is also not immediately clear whether any travelers who used the app are left with lost bookings or are otherwise affected by the insolvency.

Some other travel companies that filed for bankruptcy in 2026:

• AVG Travels: The Melbourne-based travel agency selling cheap vacation packages to travelers in Australia and New Zealand sent more than 200 customers an email saying that the trips were canceled before entering bankruptcy in May 2026.
• GoPlay Sports: In April 2026, the men’s basketball team of the University of Dallas was left without a planned trip to compete in the United Kingdom after Boston-based GoPlay Sports Tours LLC accepted two payments of $30,000 and then went unreachable.
• Havantur: Havantur was forced to shut down its main European office in France at the beginning of 2026 after tourist numbers to the Caribbean country plummeted due to U.S. military actions in Venezuela and threats against the country.
• Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations: Two travel agencies in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations, were shut down by regulators within a few days of each other in January 2026 after multiple travelers complained of buying trips and receiving invalid plane tickets and hotel bookings.

With Weyeboo classified as a terminal insolvency in which the company enters court without funds even to sustain the legal process, the travel app will almost certainly be required to liquidate.
